The day Trader Joe’s releases the first fall Frequent Flyer with all the new pumpkin items? Yeah, that’s the day I live for each year. So the holiday whose sole purpose is so we can all stuff ourselves with the best dishes of the season should sound pretty good. The problem at hand is I’m almost entirely vegan, while every single one of my relatives ought to be meat and cheese enthusiasts.
My relatives have yet to understand why I’m vegan. That’s okay. But this year it’s my time to make a few dishes that may convince them to change their minds…since they refuse to with politics.
So here’s my plan to win them over with 21 of the best Vegan Thanksgiving recipes I have found!
Step One: Warm them up with some fun (and mostly all spiked) holiday drinks so they might forget to make their usual passive aggressive vegan jokes.
1. Rosemary White Wine Spritzer
The one contingency for this recipe is to double check your wine. White wine is often less likely to be non-vegan than red, but still, many wines contain egg whites, so double check! Here’s where to look.
2. Spiced Pomegranate Mule
This recipe you won’t find online because it’s all mine. You’ll need:
- One bottle of Vodka, infused with 2-3 chai tea bags and a stick of vanilla for at least three days
- Pomegranate juice (invest in the good kind that has no added sugar or other juice blends like the POM brand)
- Bundaberg Ginger Beer, or honestly anything that’s not A&W
- Fresh lime juice
For one cocktail, I first fill a standard water glass with ice, throw in about 1.5oz of vodka (sometimes 3oz in your cup depending on the mood of your relatives), .5oz fresh lime juice (or about ½ of a lime juiced), and then just fill the rest half pomegranate, half ginger beer. If you prefer a slightly sweeter cocktail, a dash of agave is great. Top the glass with a little cinnamon and fresh mint, and it’s an instant hit with all family members.

3. Almond Milk Hot Chocolate from Scratch
This is the easiest recipe and literally contains four ingredients. Okay, five ingredients if you add Kahlua, which is a vegan alcohol. I’ve also tried the recipe with macadamia nut milk and it’s FANTASTIC.
4. Pumpkin Spice Latte
This recipe is the best because it includes REAL pumpkin. Just switch out the real milk for almond milk (I’ve found coconut milk to be too overpowering) and ditch the whipped cream. And again, it goes extra well with a bit of dark spiced rum.
5. White Bean & Pumpkin Hummus
Now add in a few easy appetizers. I’ve also done this recipe with butternut squash which is equally as tasty!
Bruschetta is always a good idea. As a dish that’s typically vegan and quite popular, the relatives never complain!
7. Spicy Vegan Cheese Ball
I love tricking my relatives into thinking they’re getting cheese so they’re more open to trying it, and then after they end up loving it, they have to admit they enjoy vegan food too.
8. Cinnamon Apple Chips
So simple, yet so tasty!

9. Pumpkin Tots
YES, SERIOUSLY. These qualify these as appetizers, main course, and dessert.
10. Autumn Kale Salad
Kale YES! Lemon breaks down some of the bitterness in the kale so that you get all the nutrients with a flavor your relatives will love.
11. Coconut Sweet Potato Jasmine Rice
An Asian-inspired Thanksgiving dinner dish served inside a roasted butternut squash!
12. Spanish Green Beans
Spanish green beans are a great way to toss in a bit of global flavor!
13. Simple Vegan Dinner Rolls
Initially tell your family these aren’t vegan. Even grandma will believe you.

All pumpkin everything.

15. Thai Red-Curry Squash Soup
Just swap the real butter out for a vegan alternative!
16. Potato & Pinto Bean Tamales
My best friend was able to convince her mom to try these… and she LOVED them as a vegan alternative!
17. Gardein Stuffed Turkey
I fed my mom Gardein brand chicken and she was confused how it wasn’t real chicken. I’ve tried A LOT of different meat alternatives and Gardein has continually won my family’s vote for being the most believable. It might not be a recipe, but a necessary dish for any vegan Thanksgiving!
18. Tofurky Turkey
Tofurky is another awesome brand.
19. Cranberry Walnut Tart
After everyone is stuffed, stuff them more. Also, an addition of vanilla coconut ice cream to this tart is exceptional.
20. Easy Apple Crisp
I even managed to wrap them in vegan puff pastry one year and they were the hit of the party!
21. Boozy Mocha Drenched Grilled Banana Coconut Cream Pies
With a cherry on top.
With that, my plan for keeping my relatives happy is in full effect. A very happy Vegansgiving!
